I suffer from ‘excusitis’, do you?

Chapters, the big book store chain in Canada, is one of my favourite places to go.  I love to get lost in the aisles, picking up random books to leaf through and making notes about books I want to read in the future.  One such book, which I picked up the last time I was there was, “The Magic of Thinking Big” by David J. Schwartz, (c) 1959, 1965 Prentice-Hall Inc.  Admittedly, it was the word ‘magic’ that caught my eye.  Marrying a magician will do that to you!

As I was reading a few pages, I came across mention of a disease that myself and many, many people suffer from.  It is called ‘excusitis’, maybe you’ve heard of it?  There are a few different forms that this disease can take, the one I am most plagued by is ‘health excusitis’.  If I don’t want to do something or if I’ve reached a point where I’m fearful to go further, I can always say it’s because of my health.  No one will argue with me because most everyone who knows me, knows I’ve been sick for awhile now.

Well, no more.

I may not be able to magically wipe away my sickness, but I can certainly lick this ‘excusitis’!

Schwartz gives a few ways to do this, they are as follows:

1. Refuse to talk about your health.

2. Refuse to worry about your health.

3. Be genuinely grateful that your health is as good as it is.

4. Remind yourself often, “it’s better to wear out than rust out.”

Now, obviously by creating this blog, I’ve mandated myself to write about my health.  But that doesn’t mean that I have to talk about with those around me.  It’s also a great way to see who has actually been reading my blog because if they ask, they haven’t read this post.  I know, I’m deliciously sneaky!

I am definitely going to live by these rules for 2012, using my mental abilities to inch my body towards health.

Do you agree with Schwartz?  Have you ever tried any of his suggestions and saw improvement?  Please share, I’d love some inspiration.
